Meridian modems are supplied set to dumb mode answer only and a DTE rate
of 1200 b/s.
To change the DTE rate you need to get the modem out of dumb mode,
change
the speed and get the modem back into dumb mode.
1) Using a
Comms application (e.g. Hyperterminal)
set to 1200 B/s, 8 bit no parity
1 stop
2) Type +++
(there will be no reponse from the
modem)
3) Type AT&E0
<cr> (there will be no
response from the modem)
4) Type AT&F <cr> (modem should respond OK)
The modem is now a normal Hayes compatible 14.4 Kb/s modem and can answer or originate calls and autobaud.
To change the DTE rate and reset the modem to dumb
auto answer mode
5) Set the
Comms application to the desired DTE rate (e.g. 9600 b/s)
6) Type AT&U1S0=1&K0&D0E0Q1 <cr> (there will be no response from the modem)
7) Type AT&W0&W1 <cr> (there will be no response from the
modem)
8) AT&E2 <cr> (there will be no
response from the modem)
The modem will now be in dumb mode, answer only and a DTE rate of 9600
b/s ( or whatever speed you set the set at step 5).
